Exploring Europe – Adventures, Culture and a Few Wrong Turns!

Europe might be on our doorstep, but after decades of exploring its mountains, rivers, coastlines and historic towns, we’re still discovering new places to visit and adventures to enjoy. From the spectacular Alps to the quieter corners of Eastern Europe, there’s an extraordinary variety of landscapes, wildlife, cultures and experiences packed into a relatively small continent.

At Wee Wild Adventures, we’ve explored Europe in just about every way imaginable. We’ve cycled through beautiful countryside, paddled along spectacular coastlines, hiked mountain trails, wandered through medieval towns and occasionally found ourselves hopelessly lost despite having several maps and a GPS!

Our European travels have taken us from the mountains and lakes of Slovenia to the historic cities of Italy, the forests and landscapes of Poland and Slovakia, and the beautiful countryside of France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. We’ve also ventured further north to Greenland, where enormous icebergs, remote settlements and Arctic wildlife offer a rather different European adventure.

Some journeys have been carefully planned expeditions, others spontaneous escapes, and many have involved guiding groups and sharing our enthusiasm for the natural world. Along the way, we’ve discovered fascinating history, remarkable wildlife, wonderful food and the occasional rather questionable local delicacy.

We’re particularly drawn to places where we can get outdoors, explore on foot or by kayak, meet local people and discover something about the landscapes and cultures around us. Although we’re never averse to a good museum, a decent coffee or a glass of local wine!

On this page, you’ll find our European travel stories, experiences, photographs and practical tips. Hopefully, they’ll provide a little inspiration for your own adventures, whether you’re planning a major expedition or simply looking for somewhere different to explore.

After all, adventure doesn’t always require travelling halfway around the world!
