Cory Jones
Cory has a varied background in outdoor leadership and training. As a boy he was always bird watching on his local patch or around the north east where he was brought up.
Cory recently undertook the Wilderness Guide Training Programme to become a Wild Scotland Wilderness Guide. He is a qualified teacher, sea kayak leader, mountain leader and orienteering instructor. In the past he has been Centre Manager at Malham Tarn Field Centre, managed the Lake District National Park Education Service, been Head of Biodiversity and Life-long learning for Sheffield Wildlife Trust, managed rainforest conservation projects in the Philippines and worked overseas as a development adviser before setting up Walking and Wildlife Adventures. Cory is also the Director of Outdoor First Aid Limited and the First Aid Training Co-operative.
Cory has recently become a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a British Canoeing Endorsed Guide. He is also a qualified International Mountain Guide and a Mountain Weather Information Service Ambassador.
Since 2001 Cory has guided across the globe for a number of UK based expedition companies including KE Adventure, Mountain Kingdoms and Wilderness Expertise.
In 2017 Cory and Mandy walked 750 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail , the 390 mile Oregon Coast Trail, kayaked in the San Juan Islands off the Vancouver coastline and completed the Powell River Canoe Trail. Read about their adventures here or view them on their YouTube channel.
Cory has a passion for travel in, and on, the big mountain ranges of the world. He has experience of expedition leading in Pakistan, Ladakh, Nepal, Patagonia, the Middle East and Africa. Over the winter 2009/10 Cory led a three man team which successfully crossed the Southern Patagonian Ice Cap, a place reputed to have the worst weather in the world!
Cory has been on or led expeditions in Bolivia, India, Pakistan, China, Tibet, Malawi, Kenya, Namibia, Jordan, Uganda and Guyana.
Mandy E. Rush
Mandy E. Rush. Storyteller. Collector of curious places and extraordinary adventures.
Mandy is a Scottish traveller, artist, illustrator, writer and professional Highland guide with an endless curiosity about people, places and the stories that connect them. She has an uncanny ability to find fascinating stories in the things most people walk straight past, whether that’s an ancient Highland church, a forgotten well or an island at the end of the world.
Her adventures have taken her from teaching English in Kenya and volunteering through Central America to living and working in South Georgia at King Edward Point, one of the most remote places on Earth. Along the way, she has collected a lifetime of stories, experiences and a wonderfully eclectic view of the world.
Scottish born and bred, Mandy now shares her homeland with visitors from around the world as a professional tour guide, bringing Scotland’s history, wildlife and hidden corners vividly to life in both English and German. She believes travelling should be about more than simply seeing a place. It should be about understanding it and connecting with it.
A trained artist and illustrator, Mandy also writes and illustrates her own books and loves using creativity to share Scotland’s heritage with others. An avid runner and hiker, she thrives on the thrill of discovery, constantly seeking out new challenges and pushing her limits. Mandy’s boundless energy and infectious enthusiasm make her a true Renaissance woman.
Adventures with Cory
Mandy’s personal adventures with Cory have included walking 750 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, completing the 390-mile Oregon Coast Trail, kayaking among the islands of the Pacific Northwest and paddling wilderness canoe routes across Canada. Together, they have travelled from the Highlands of Scotland to some of the wildest and most remote places on Earth.
When she isn’t out exploring, Mandy is usually behind the camera or at her computer creating the films, photographs, blogs and social media content that bring Wee Wild Adventures to life. She loves finding new and creative ways to share stories and is always keen to embrace the latest technology if it helps inspire others to explore, learn and discover something new.
Wee Wild Adventures brings together Mandy’s love of travel, storytelling, art, history and wildlife. Her adventures may not always go according to plan, but they are rarely dull, and there is nearly always an unexpected story waiting around the next corner.
