A Glimpse into History of Bannockburn House
Bannockburn House boasts a fascinating history dating back centuries. Originally built in the 17th century, this grand mansion witnessed pivotal moments in Scottish history, including visits from Bonnie Prince Charlie during the Jacobite uprisings. Its strategic location near Stirling made it the perfect base for the Bonnie Prince and he used Bannockburn House as his headquarters during the seige of Stirling.
Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite Uprisings:
As you can see during the tumultuous Jacobite rebellions, Bannockburn House played a significant role. Stirling surrendered in January 1746 and the Key to the Toon was given to the Prince. The key remained hidden in what might have been Bonnie Prince Charlies bedroom until the 1900s. The key was sold in the 1960s and eventually gifted to the Smith Art Gallery in Stirling.
Today, visitors can explore the very rooms where these historic figures once walked, breathing life into the tales of bravery and defiance.
Bonnie Prince Charlie also finds love at Bannockburn House with Clementina Wilkinshaw and they have a child together.
