Surrounded by fellow runners, each with their own story and motivation, we prepare to embark on a journey. With distances ranging from a brisk 10 kilometres to a formidable 25 kilometres, the s25 Lauf promises a physical challenge and a unique connection to the city’s past.

Since my spinal operation in September last year (2023) I’ve built up to 5 kilometres.

The most I have ran is perhaps 6 kilometres. I believe that even if I have to walk my 10km race, I will finish!

Iconic Start and Finish at Olympic Stadium

There’s something truly special about starting and finishing a race at the historic Olympic Stadium in Berlin. Built for the 1936 Summer Olympics and originally called the Reich Sports Field.

As you cross the threshold of this iconic landmark, you can’t help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Running in the footsteps of Jesse Owens

The Nazis intended that the 1936 Olympics show the world the superiority of the Aryan race. Jesse Owens, a black American, won four gold medals at the Olympics. This was a significant achievement and an important legacy for equality.

All runners of the s25 finish their challenge by running in the same Olympic arena as the iconic Jesse Owens.

Historical Significance with French Connection

The s25 Berlin Läuft has a storied past, dating back to its inaugural edition in 1981. The first race of its kind, originally conceived by the French forces stationed in Berlin, the race has evolved into a beloved tradition that celebrates the city’s beauty. The original race was called ‘25km de Berlin’ and saw the French soldiers block off the roads in the city centre.

Excellent Public Transport

Getting to the start line is a breeze, thanks to Berlin’s efficient public transport system. With convenient access from all corners of the city, you can focus on your race without the stress of navigating traffic or parking.

We travel with the S-Bahn out to the Olympic Stadium. The train is quiet as we travel into the stadium. When we leave the stadium it is full of some of the 11 000 other participants of this amazing race but it still has plenty of space for everyone to get a seat.
